Rea Kapur is a writer, producer, director, actor, and comedian! Since 2015, Rea's worked throughout the Bay Area in film, theatre, and comedy. At 16, she spent hours on sites like Nofilmschool and Youtube, teaching herself the art of filmmaking before venturing out into the narrative short film world. Since then, she’s created films, improv shows, sketch shows, stand up comedy shows, and plays. After winning a Producer’s Award at the 2017 San Jose 48 Hour Film Festival for a film she co-wrote and co-produced, Rea decided she wanted to focus on creating films that highlighted her journey through the mental health system. Growing up as a neuro divergent, brown, gay woman, Rea never saw herself portrayed in media, and now creates art for people like her. Specifically, she’s passionate about creating content with realistic portrayals of mental illness.

When the Covid-19 pandemic emerged in 2020, most of the film world shut down, leaving artists to fend for themselves. However, Rea worked diligently to find opportunities for herself, being accepted into multiple screenwriting and film programs with film organizations across the Bay. These achievements include graduating from Bay Area Video Coalition's Serial Storytellers program in 2021, completing the Queer Women of Color Film and Freedom Academy in 2021, participating in Rickshaw Film Foundation's Cycle 2 Writer's Room and Cycle 3's Alumni Room in 2022-2023, having her short film, "Punchline", premiere at the 2022 Queer Women of Color Film Festival, and graduating from a documentary apprenticeship with YouthBeat in 2022. All these programs were possible through non profits providing filmmaking training and experience to underserved filmmakers, which cements Rea's love and passion for non profit work. Since 2023, Rea has worked on a range of professional projects, from non profit ads to music videos, while pursuing narrative filmmaking opportunities. 2023 also marked the year that Rea rejoined the comedy world, performing stand up comedy at various venues through out the Bay, from drag shows to mental health comedy shows.

Rea's experience navigating the Bay Area film, theatre, and comedy scene makes her a great producer for your next show, shoot, or project! With her peculiar perspective combined with extensive screenwriting training and experience, Rea is an amazing storyteller, dedicated to uplifting marginalized communities. Her work as a multi hyphenate, experience working in a variety of mediums, and her commitment to Bay Area film makes Rea a uniquely qualified artist and a valuable asset for your next project!
